Life alla Lisa!
As soon as you step foot in Italy, you are immediately struck by the rhythm of the Italian day.
It is inherently different from a day in the United States.
On this, Lisa’s Lifestyle page, I will share a new lifestyle tip with you every month so you can incorporate aspects of the Italian lifestyle into your daily life!
During all my years of living in Italy, I learned that incorporating small changes into your day gives greater enjoyment, greater pleasure to your day.
“La Passeggiata” ~ Enjoy a walk everyday!
Italians are famous for la passeggiata! This means, “the walk”, and they do it everywhere and anywhere.
They are never too busy for la passeggiata.
Italians walk, stroll, converse, while getting fresh air and digesting their food. It does not matter if they work downtown or in the countryside, after lunch everyone heads outside for a passeggiata. Not only is this a healthy habit, it increases socialization and conversation with your family and friends, or a time to reflect, if you are strolling on your own.
“Il Cibo” ~ Simple, Fresh Food.
Delicious and healthy food does not have to be complicated. In fact, three to four fresh, seasonal ingredients in each recipe, are the hallmarks of Italian food. On average, Italians consume 2 to 3 fresh vegetables a day and a small quantity of protein. While they do eat daily pasta, their portions are small, no bigger than a serving the size of your palm.
So, no matter where you live, shop at your local Farmer’s Market, look around and find the vegetables, the produce that is in season today. Eat regionally – was this vegetable grown by your local farmers? And eat seasonally – is it root vegetable season (Fall and Winter) or are zucchini, tomatoes and eggplant plentiful?
